Sorry. We are no longer considering submissions for this next izzzue.
needs
Literary objects. Texts can take the shape of prose or experimental forms, however, we are not typically interested in text objects that visually resemble "poems." Unless you happen to be James Tate.
We like fiction, though the story is not so important to us as the telling of it. We like sentences that carry themselves out.
We invite creative experimentation as long as it doesn't scare us. Every word should be in it's rightful place. We have a healthy respect for our language and don't like to see it gratuitously butchered.
We'll consider more expansive pieces than we have in the past. We don't mind if it rubs off on us or gets us dirty.
We also are seeking our usual dose of art: collage, photography, schema, diagrams, textures and found or mythic objects, especially when they are integrated with text. We like things smaller than, say, a piece of toast.
We encourage writers from diverse backgrounds. You don't need a degree or any other credentials. However, if you are a freak, you should at least be able to be non-freaky in your communications to us.
Please don't ask us what our aesthetic is. This is something you should figure out. It helps to check out the current or past iterations. We're taking it from there.
logistics
Email only. If it's something that needs to be sent postal, query first by email.
Send us unpublished works. Translations OK.
Send only recognizable attachments such as TXT, DOC, RTF, PDF, JPG or GIF.
Identify yourself and your submission so we know you are human. Tell us why Sleepingfish. Please don't address your email to the "editors". We are people behind all this. Our names are Derek White and Robert Lopez. No one pays us to do this so be nice to us. We do this for the love of language and art and you should too.
We'll consider submissions until the fissue (#zzz) feels complete. Circa March 1, 2008.
